# Allowing USB Permission Dialogs

When Kiosk Browser or Kiosk Launcher is installed using the provisioning method, only permitted applications can run once the Kiosk application has started. This also applies to some system dialogs, including the prompts Android shows when a USB device is connected, such as:

- *"Allow \[app] to access \[USB device]?"*
- *"Open \[app] to handle \[USB device]?"*
- *"Use USB for…"* / *"Allow access to device data?"*

These dialogs belong to Android's System UI package, `com.android.systemui`. If it isn't permitted, the dialog is blocked and never appears. The USB device will seem to do nothing, or the app that needs it will report it has no permission.

## Allowing the dialog

Add `com.android.systemui` to your permitted applications.

**Kiosk Launcher:**
Settings > App Launcher > Allowed Apps > add `com.android.systemui`

**Kiosk Browser:**
Settings > App Drawer > Visible Apps > add `com.android.systemui`

Then disconnect and reconnect the USB device. The permission dialog should now appear.

**Tip:** If the dialog has a **"Use by default for this USB device"** or **"Always open"** option, tick it before tapping OK. Android will remember your choice, and the prompt won't appear again for that device and app.

## Please note

Allowing `com.android.systemui` permits other System UI screens as well as the USB dialogs. After the USB device has been approved with "Use by default" ticked, you may want to remove `com.android.systemui` from the permitted list again to keep the device locked down.

## Confirming that System UI is the cause

If the dialog still doesn't appear, capture the device log as described in [Detecting Blocked Applications](https://help.android-kiosk.com/en/article/detecting-blocked-applications-aq0zel/), then reconnect the USB device. A blocked USB dialog shows up as a line like this:

`E/ActivityManager: Attempted Lock Task Mode violation mStartActivity=ActivityRecord{... u0 com.android.systemui/.usb.UsbPermissionActivity ...}`

You may also see `UsbConfirmActivity` or `UsbResolverActivity`. If the log shows a different package, for example on some Samsung devices, add that package instead.
